About Me

Designing with intent,
not just intuition.

I'm Imalsha – a Product Designer based in the Netherlands who believes the best design is the kind people never have to think about.

For the past four years I've worked end to end across SaaS, B2B, D2C, AI-powered platforms, e-Commerce, web and mobile from the first user interview through to post-handoff design review. I've owned products solo and collaborated within larger teams, always with the same goal: close the gap between what a product promises and what a person actually experiences. I close that gap with research, clear information architecture, and design systems that survive contact with real engineering teams.

Where I've Worked

Experience that shipped

Four years across product design and frontend-adjacent engineering - building for real users, real deadlines and real teams.

Serving Australian & Global Clients

  • Promoted based on KPI performance for consistent ownership and delivery across a project-based environment
  • Designed for consumer apps and internal operational tools which were in multiple complex, unrelated domains simultaneously.
  • Delivered 28+ projects across 15+ domains, including AI-powered SaaS, HRTech, Healthcare, LegalTech, E-commerce, Recruitment, Lead Management, Marketing and SportsTech while maintaining delivery speed and design quality.
  • Owned End-to-End Product Design: User Research, User Journey Mapping, Design Systems, Interactive Prototypes, High-fidelity Design, Usability Testing, Developer Handoff and Post-Handoff Review across Web, Mobile.
  • Built and maintained a scalable, token-driven Design System of 48 components from scratch, adopted across 4 Swivel products, cutting design-to-development handoff time by 40%.
  • Integrated AI workflows into the design process, improving team collaboration and prototyping efficiency.
  • Collaborated with Product Managers, Developers, Test Engineers, Stakeholders, and Marketing teams to deliver UI/UX, branding assets, campaign materials, and social media content - maintaining usability and brand consistency throughout.

Serving Indian & Global Clients

  • Promoted within 3 months for switching between unrelated client domains quickly - learning each business context, adapting design decisions, and maintaining quality without losing speed.
  • Built interactive Shopify product recommendation quizzes, blending UI/UX with front-end development while adapting quickly to diverse e-commerce contexts.
  • Conducted user research and analyzed findings to identify UX opportunities, improving product experiences and supporting user product discovery.
  • Created wireframes, interactive prototypes in Figma and contributed to custom front-end styling in HTML, CSS, and Shopify Liquid, improving product discovery, personalization, and user engagement.
  • Collaborated with Developers, Test Engineers, Project Managers and Clients to ensure seamless implementation, design consistency, and high-quality experiences across multiple Shopify stores.

Internship during University

  • Built responsive interfaces using React, Bootstrap, and Ant Design during a 6-month front-end internship.
  • Gained hands-on understanding of how design decisions behave in real code - spacing, component states, responsive breakpoints, and rendering constraints.
  • That early technical grounding has made every developer conversation since faster, more precise, and less likely to end in "that’s not possible."
  • Applied UI/UX principles directly in front-end implementation, not just in design files.
  • Developed early fluency across both design and engineering - understanding how the two disciplines speak differently about the same problem.
  • The result: cleaner handoffs, shorter feedback loops, and a significantly smaller gap between what gets designed and what actually gets shipped.

Education

Where the foundation was built

B.Sc. (Hons) in Information Technology & Management

Faculty of Information Technology · University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka

2017 – 2022

A degree that sat deliberately between engineering, design, and business, exactly where product design lives. It gave me the vocabulary to talk to developers about feasibility, to designers about experience, and to stakeholders about value, without needing a translator in any room.

How I Work

Process, skills & the tools behind them

UX Process
Five stages run in order: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. Dashed feedback loops run backwards between them, showing that testing feeds new ideas, redefines the problem and returns to user understanding. Learn about users through testing Empathize to define the problem Test creates new ideas for the project Learn from prototypes to spark new ideas Test reveals insights that redefine the problem 01 Empathize 02 Define 03 Ideate 04 Prototype 05 Test

Core Skills
  • Sole Designer Ownership

I've taken products from zero to shipped entirely alone - discovery, research, design system, UI, developer handoff and post-handoff review - without a safety net.

  • Systems Thinking at Scale

I design components, not screens - building token-driven systems that give engineering teams a foundation they can extend without breaking consistency.

  • Research-to-Pixel Ownership

I run my own discovery, synthesize findings, and translate them into interfaces - without needing a researcher to hand me insights before I can start.

  • AI-Native Product Design

I design the interfaces where AI does the work - conversational flows, agentic interfaces, and trust-building interaction patterns across 10+ AI-powered platforms.

  • Cross-Domain Adaptability

I've shipped across 18+ domains without a learning curve that costs the team - healthcare one sprint, fintech the next, same delivery standard throughout.

  • Design-Engineering Bridge

I write HTML and CSS, speak developer fluently, and stay involved post-handoff - which means what gets designed and what gets shipped are usually the same thing.

  • UX Writing Embedded in Design

The words inside a product are a design decision - I write conversational AI copy, onboarding flows, microcopy, and error states as part of the design process - not after it.

Outside The Work

What keeps the eye sharp

Reading

Design writing, psychology and the occasional long-form essay that reframes how I think about people.

Music

Always something playing while I design - it sets the pace for deep focus sessions.

Photography

Framing everyday moments - the same eye for composition I bring to a layout.

Traveling

New places, new people, new interfaces - the best research is lived, not read.
